Philip Foxman
Philip Foxman - Sydney, Australia.
Philip reached out to us on Twitter/X and asked us to give his track 'Real Life' a listen, which of course, we obliged.
The first thing that stands out when listening to 'Real Life' is that Philip, or whatever personnel make up Philip's band are clearly competent/skilled musicians who's sound implies a level of experience. In that case, their overall musicianship gives me the impression that an individuals opinion of this composition must be one based solely on taste.
This reviewer must concede that he isn't the target audience for this style of music, though I can say with some confidence that there certainly is an audience out there for this, and with my limited knowledge of the genre, I feel that this song is more than capable of holding it's own within that musical sphere.
'Real Life' is a melodic rock song that leads with clean crips guitars, gentle piano and soring but subtle hints of lead guitar. This lays the ground work for a vocal track that works through the verses to build the theme of the song with a strong yet laid back delivery. The vocal style and lyrical content help to build clear imagery in the mind of the listener that pays off with the arrival of the chorus. Once the layered harmonies kick in, and the band dangles the track's hook in your face, it's clear that this is a band who take themselves and what they do seriously, and who know how to put across a feeling, or an emotion and how to make it entertaining.
In conclusion, 'Real Life' is a track that would feel at home in a movie, or a T.V. show. The song feels well written, well put together, well recorded and well performed. There most certainly is an audience out there for this music, there definitely are people in the world who would love this, and hopefully Philip and his band can find that audience.
